There are several thousand franchises out there, and one third of all franchises are food. Why? Simple: Everyone needs to eat – multiple times a day. That creates a huge market.
But all brands are not created equally. So how do you know which to choose? Here are some points to consider:
- The Food: Does it appeal to a large section of your market? Do you enjoy eating this type of food?
- Menu: How simple or extensive is the menu?
- Type of Restaurant: Is it Fast Food (ie: McDonalds) or Fast Casual (Chick-fil-A)? What’s the difference?
- Employees: How many employees does it typically require?
- The Brand: Is it a recognizable brand? Is it a start-up? Is it unique to your area, but proven elsewhere?
- Marketing: Is the branding professional? Are there multiple marketing and advertising strategies in place?
- The Source: Where are the food products sourced? Can you source any products locally?
- Site Location: How are potential sites identified?
- Construction: Do they provide architectural drawings? Do they provide additional help with construction management?
- Training: What type and how much training do you receive? Do your employees receive training as well?
- Support: How does the franchisor support you?
- Financing: Do they provide in-house financing? Do they have funding partners?
